Join us as we head west on a full day magical mystical tour to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and surroundings.
Countless lunar landscapes and volcanic vistas lie in store as we drive west out of Reykjavík. We&#8217;ll head towards the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier. The glacier sits atop the active stratovolcano that took centre stage in the Jules Verne sci fi novel, Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
Our first stop will be Ýtri-Tunga farm, which is next to a beautiful beach. Here, huge seal colonies lounge on the beach, and your guide will lead you to a viewing point. (This is a summertime stop; there are no seal colonies here during the winter).
Afterwards, we head to our favourite farm in the peninsula, where an amazing home-cooked meal waits for us.
Next, we&#8217;ll visit Buðarkirkja, which is the historical black church in the hamlet of Buðir. This is one of the few black churches in the country. The builders painted it with pitch in order to protect the wood from the harsh climatic conditions.
The dramatic coast of Arnarstapi is waiting for us next. Powerful waves are constantly eroding the cliffs and leave impressive rock formations behind. Also, we&#8217;ll visit the black sand beach of Djúpalónssandur,  where we can see the remains of a 1948 shipwreck.
Naturally, we will stop to admire Kirkjufell, probably the most-photographed mountain in the country. Surrounded by streams and small waterfalls, it was a filming location for Game of Thrones.
Our last stop will be Bersekjahraun lava fields. Created around 4.000 years ago, the lava fields are extremely thick and decorated with beautiful rock formations.

There is something so otherworldly about Snæfellsnes that Icelanders often associate it with spiritual experiences and folk tales. This tour provides spectacular views of this unique area where geological wonders border on the magical.
The Snæfellsnes peninsula in the West of Iceland is almost like a miniature version of the entire island. The area has beautiful samples of most of the natural landscapes that make Iceland so famous. This includes black beaches, magnificent mountains, volcanic craters, incredible birdlife, magical caves, and of course, the most picturesque glacier of them all, Snæfellsjökull. Part of the peninsula makes up Snæfellsjökull National Park, the country’s only coastal national park.
This carbon neautral tour visits the small fishing village of Arnarstapi and provides real insight into quintessential volcanic craters. Along the way you’ll get great views of the iconic Kirkjufell mountain (famous as the Arrow Mountain from Game of Thrones), and the dark cliffs and black sand of Djúpalónssandur bay are a favourite among photographers.
In the middle of this beautiful peninsula sits Snæfellsjökull, the stunning glacier that has captured the imagination of people all over the world, including Jules Verne who mentioned it in his novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth. You’ll enjoy grand views of this beautiful volcano glacier. It is, after all, the real star of the show.

Wonders of Snæfellsnes

Visit Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss in style in a premium day tour, run exclusively in small groups of no more than 18 people.
The iconic Golden Circle route covers Þingvellir National park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss waterfall, striking and unique stops that demonstrate how tectonic activity and glacial erosion have shaped the landscape. You’ll also enjoy stops at Friðheimar geothermal greenhouse farm and the exotic Kerið volcanic crater.
The first stop is Kerið crater. Estimated to be around 6.500 years old, the Kerið volcanic crater is an impressive sight to behold. At the base of the crater is an aquamarine blue lake.
Friðheimar farm is known for both its greenhouse and horse stables. Visit the farm&#8217;s famous stables and meet Icelandic horses and enjoy a demonstration about this unique horse breed. Then take an interesting guided tour of the greenhouse where vegetables are grown with geothermal energy. Sample delicious tomatoes before you enjoy a leisurely lunch. (Please note that lunch is not included in the tour price).
Visit Gullfoss, one of the most powerful and impressive waterfalls in Iceland. The falls are part of Hvítá, a glacier river fed by meltwater from the enormous Langjökull glacier to the north. Your next attraction is the Geysir geothermal area. Strokkur geyser erupts every 5 to 10 minutes. Beyond Strokkur, you can take several walking paths and view the boiling waters of the hot springs and steam vents.
Your final stop of the day is Þingvellir National park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Þingvellir sits in the rift valley that marks the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
