A one-of-a-kind underground cave adventure! Explore the depths of a lava tube then go snorkelling in between the North American and Eurasion tectonic plates. Walk and then float over lava and swim between large volcanic canyons.
Spend the whole day beneath the surface with our expert guides! Prepare for an adventure deep into the beating heart of Iceland.
You’ll start by exploring a colourful lava tube cave close to Reykjavík. Head to Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest lava tube caves in Iceland. This adventure gives you great insight into the volcanic activities that have formed the country.
After you finish caving, you will have a chance to grab some lunch (not included) between the two activities.
Afterwards, your group will drive to Þingvellir National Park for an afternoon of snorkelling between the Eurasian and American tectonic plates. This is where Silfra fissure is found. Here you will get ready to explore the blue. Witness some of the clearest water on Earth as your guide leads you on an underwater journey.

Immerse yourself in the clearest water in the world and float between two continents in Iceland! A snorkelling adventure in the famous Silfra fissure is an unforgettable experience.
Snorkel in Silfra, where the astonishingly clear water reveals a mesmerising underwater world full of coluors you don’t see above the surface. Silfra is a fissure created by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates cutting through Iceland. A natural lava filtering process of the glacial water makes Silfra one of the clearest bodies of water on Earth.
During the one-hour drive from Reykjavík to Þingvellir National Park, your guide will give you background information about the unique geology and cultural history of Iceland and Silfra, as well as the national park.
After you arrive at Silfra, your guide will give you your dry suit and snorkelling equipment. Your snorkel guide will explain how to use this equipment and how to ensure that you will be warm and comfortable during your 30 to 40-minute snorkelling tour.
During your snorkel you will explore the four main parts of Silfra. You will float through Big Crack, Silfra’s narrowest section where the continental plates are so close you can almost touch them. The fissure then widens into Silfra Hall. Here the full spectrum of Silfra’s colours and clarity become all the more apparent. At this point if you look at just the right angle you can see all the way to Lake Þingvallavatn in the distance. Near to the opening to Þingvellir lake you will enter the deeper waters of Silfra Cathedral, where you’ll feel like you are flying over the boulders and glacial silt. Your snorkel is finished in the endless visibility of Silfra Lagoon.
Make sure to drink some of the Silfra water while you are snorkeling! Who knows when you will be able to drink water so pure again?

Silfra snorkelling in Iceland is an adventure you will find unusual and for sure an experience never to forget. Float over lava, swim between large volcanic canyons and discover the crystal-clear glacier waters that flow between the North American and Eurasian continents.
Whether you are an experienced snorkeler or a beginner this dive is an absolutely mesmerizing experience!
Enjoy an amazing snorkelling experience in Silfra canyon as you drift peacefully in the comfort of a warm dry suit and accompanied by our highly skilled guides. Silfra, frequently rated as one of the world’s top ten dive sites, is located between the tectonic plates of Europe and America so you will be snorkeling in between them. Silfra is the only place in the world where this can be done.
Our experienced and well-qualified specialist diving guides will ensure you are provided with all of the proper equipment and information you need.
After a short 150-metre (490-foot) walk to the entry point, you’ll slip into the glacier-clear water and begin your journey between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Drift through Silfra’s bright blue channels, where visibility often reaches 150 metres (490 feet), and enjoy the slow-moving “lazy current” carrying you through the rift.
You’ll spend about 30–40 minutes snorkeling before exiting at the Silfra Lagoon. From there, it’s a 400-metre (1,300-foot) walk back to the parking area.
After the snorkel, warm up with hot chocolate and cookies while you enjoy the views of Þingvellir’s lava fields and mountains — the perfect ending to an unforgettable day!
