Glacier Experience is a small group experience that offers an easy glacier hike on Sólheimajökull glacier with an experienced glacier guide and is available all year around. Add even more adventure to your stay in Iceland and come explore this amazing crawling glacier with us. Sólheimajökull glacier is an outlet from the mighty Mýrdalsjökull and is surrounded by some of Iceland&#8217;s grandest volcanoes. A glacier lagoon forms in front of the glacier during summertime, only adding to the location&#8217;s charm.
Your Glacier Experience tour starts with an introduction to the necessary glacier equipment provided in the tour and your expert guide going over the safety rules to explore the beautiful Sólheimajökull glacier. You will then take a short but scenic walk across the pitch-black volcanic ash and sands that lay in between the Sólheimajökull glacier and the parking lot.
The ash and sand are from the volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull stratovolcano that took place in the year 2010 and is a reminder of the closeness of volcanoes and glaciers in Iceland. Truly a fantastic and unique start! At the foot of the glacier you will lace up our crampons and follow your guide to explore this otherworldly natural wonder; a rugged, raw and ever-changing hub of ancient frozen water.
You will see how the primal elements shape and affect the glacier, creating mesmerising labyrinths of ice ridges and deep V-shaped crevasses that crisscross and scar the surface of the ice. Not to mention the big sinkholes, called “moulins”, that sometimes have drilled their way through the glacier, draining the meltwater of the ice through little waterfalls and streams.
This popular day tour is the perfect way to know the actual reason behind the name Ice-land!

Glacier Experience – Sólheimajökull Easy Glacier Hike

Snæfellsnes is known as a miniature version of Iceland. In a relatively small area, you can see lava fields, mountains, small towns, a glacier, sea cliffs, lava caves, black sand beaches and more.
Departing from Reykjavik, your first stop is at the Berserkjahraun Lava Fields, where jagged formations from ancient volcanic eruptions create an otherworldly atmosphere steeped in legend. Then, marvel at the iconic Mt. Kirkjufell and its nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls, capturing picture-perfect views of Iceland’s most photographed mountain.
The hauntingly beautiful Djúpalónssandur Black Sand Beach, lined with smooth pebbles and scattered shipwreck remains, offers a poignant reminder of the country’s maritime past. Snæfellsnes Peninsula Small Group Tour

Winter Travel Information
We are happy to now offer you the possibility of booking this tour for winter travel. Icelanders drive around Iceland in winter, and your clients can, too! But your clients should be aware of the road conditions and unpredictable weather during Iceland’s winter wonderland season. They should be comfortable with driving in snowy, windy, and icy conditions. Iceland Travel has implemented steps to ensure the safety of your client, and we will keep them updated on any weather changes that might affect their itinerary along their route. We will cover any cost for hotels that need to be changed or cancelled if roads must close due to bad weather. We’ll watch over your clients, and they can always reach us via the 24-hour emergency line.

Discover the Edge of the Arctic

This trip brings you to Iceland at the ideal time to discover the nation’s birdlife at its best, with a focus on the south and west coasts.  Enjoy opportunities to spot birds, along with visits to Iceland’s beloved natural wonders.
The majority (about two-thirds) of Iceland’s birds are seabirds and various species of wetland birds. Almost 80 bird species breed regularly in Iceland. Many of these birds only spend a few months in the country each year; others are permanent residents. In total around 30 species have been added to Iceland’s bird population during the last century. The vast majority of the species breed in neighbouring European countries, or around the Arctic region. Three species have entered Iceland from North America:  the Great Northern Diver (Common Loon), the Barrow’s Goldeneye, and the Harlequin Duck. Iceland is their only breeding location in Europe. Several migratory species stop-over in Iceland on their way between their breeding grounds north of the Arctic Circle and their wintering grounds further south on the planet.  These species include the Knot, sanderling, Turnstone, Brent Goose, White-fronted Goose, and Barnacle Goose. A total of around 380 species have been observed at least once in Iceland, most of them being migratory.

Scenic Iceland

This private airport transfer via Blue Lagoon is the most comfortable way to travel between Keflavík Airport and your Reykjavík hotel.
Your transfer service starts with a personal meet &amp; greet either at the airport arrival hall or at your accommodation. Your driver will take you to the magnificent Blue Lagoon where you can enjoy a 4-hour visit. Your driver can keep your luggage in the vehicle and will be waiting for you at the Blue Lagoon.
Please note that the Blue Lagoon requires a reservation in advance. Iceland Travel can make the reservation for you.

Looking for something off the typical tourist track? This is the tour for you! It’s time to jump in a SuperJeep, strap on your crampons and step into the mighty glaciers and ice caves of South Iceland.
Prepare for movie-like landscapes and jaw-dropping sights like nothing you&#8217;ve ever done before. We&#8217;ll hike out across a glacier, then visit an amazing blue and black ice cave.
Your adventure starts in Vík village, where you will meet your expert glacier hiking guide and board a SuperJeep. You’ll head into what seems like a rugged no man’s land. Enchanting glaciers and mountains surround you.
Your SuperJeep stops near the otherworldly Kötlujökull glacier. It’s time to put on your crampons and helmet and take a short walk to the opening of the ice cave. Depending on conditions, you might need to climb a few steps on ladders to the ice cave entrance. The climb is not difficult for anyone in reasonable physical shape.
Beautiful layers of different coloured ice and volcanic ash unfold from the ice, painting impressive stripes in the glacier. Your guide will tell you all about the history of the glacier, the ice cave and the area.
When you are back out from the glacier, your group will walk around and see if any smaller ice caves are accessible. The drive back to Vík is an amazing one. During wintertime, the sun sets behind the mountains, creating a magical wintery view.

Enjoy a unique and authentic experience away from the crowds as you linger in eight natural hot springs surrounded by majestic mountains and black beaches.
Hvammsvík Hot Springs sit right on the Atlantic Ocean, with water levels and temperatures of the natural pools fluctuating with the tides. Temperatures range from ocean temperatures (around 10°C/50°F) to 42°C/108°F.
When you visit Hvammsvík Hot Springs, you will feel both relaxed and invigorated. We promise you a unique experience in eight natural hot springs situated along the shoreline and merging with the ocean.
Area locals built Hvammsvík Hot Springs using rocks from the surroundings, in harmony with the nature and wildlife. An original barrack foundations built by Allied troops during World War II now houses the facilities.
Your admission includes unlimited access to all facilities.  Enjoy eight natural hot springs, the steam bath, and free use of the paddle boards (weather permitting). Jump into the ocean, go for a hike on the estate&#8217;s walking trails, or simply chill on the black beach. We recommend that you try the outdoor changing rooms like the locals where you shower under the open sky.

Hvammsvík Hot Springs

Immerse yourself in the clearest water in the world and float between two continents in Iceland! A snorkelling adventure in the famous Silfra fissure is an unforgettable experience!
Snorkel where the astonishingly clear water reveals a mesmerizing underwater world full of colours you don’t see above the surface. Silfra is a fissure created by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. A natural lava filtering process of the glacial water makes Silfra one of the world&#8217;s clearest bodies of water.
After you arrive at Silfra, your guide will give you your dry suit and snorkeling equipment and explain how to use it.
During your 30-40 minute snorkel you will explore Silfra&#8217;a four main areas. You will float through Big Crack, Silfra’s narrowest section, where the continental plates are so close you can almost touch them. The fissure then widens into Silfra Hall. Here the full spectrum of Silfra’s colours and clarity become all the more apparent. At this point, if you look at just the right angle you can see all the way to Lake Þingvallavatn in the distance. Near to the opening to Þingvellir lake you will enter the deeper waters of Silfra Cathedral. where you’ll feel like you are flying over the boulders and glacial silt. Your snorkel finishes in the endless visibility of Silfra Lagoon.
Make sure to drink some of the Silfra water while you are snorkeling! Who knows when you will be able to drink water so pure again?

Join our highly enthusiastic and experienced team in the search for whales, dolphins, and birds near Reykjavík.
Enjoy a magical journey into Faxaflói bay with our expert crew. Magnificent landscapes surround the area and add a unique contrast to the vast ocean.
You’ll search for whales under the excellent guidance of our marine biologist guides while learning about the incredible Icelandic wildlife. The bay is also full of birdlife that feed on the sea’s plentiful fish.
The most common whale species on our tours include minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. Occasionally we’ll see killer whales, fin whales, sei whales and long-finned pilot whales. One of our excellent naturalists will give a live commentary throughout the tour and notify you of any sightings as we go.
Start your tour with our Visitor Centre, located on board a converted fishing vessel permanently placed by the pier. Stroll through our unique floating wildlife exhibition to learn more about the animals you might see. You’ll board the boat through the Visitor Centre.  You can stay outside in the fresh air but you are also welcome to settle inside the heated lounge and observe from within.
Our whale watching boat has  several outdoor viewing platforms, a heated indoor saloon with large viewing windows, a cafeteria where you can buy light refreshments, toilet facilities and a cloak room where you can borrow our blankets and overalls for the duration of the tour.

Sky Lagoon Saman Pass with Return Transfers

Enjoy a relaxing experience in geothermal pools surrounded by trees and a beautiful fjord.
The Forest Lagoon (Skógarböð) is a geothermal spa located in Vaðlaskógur forest, just a few minutes&#8217; car drive from Akureyri. Icelanders call this beautiful town the &#8220;Capital of the North.&#8221;  It takes just 45 minutes to fly here from Reykjavík, or about a five-hour drive.  With views overlooking one of Iceland&#8217;s longest fjords, Eyjafjörður, the spa&#8217;s unique location surrounded by birch and pine trees truly sets it apart.
The Forest Lagoon’s 1.300 square-metre (13,993 sq ft) complex includes the Forest Bistro, two pools with two swim-up bars, a cold tub and a Finnish dry sauna. Next to the sauna is a cold pool, and it is wonderful to enjoy the health benefits that combining all these experiences can bring.  The cold pool temperature is 11°C (52°F).
The pools use all-natural geothermal water from the mountain behind the Vaðlaheiði forest. The hot spring water was discovered during a tunnel project. The spring was the inspiration for creating this beautiful forest retreat.
A lovely part of the experience at the Forest Lagoon is dining at Forest Bistro. If you enjoy quality food in an exotic environment, the wood-cladded bistro area is something you will not want to miss.

The Plane Wreck Shuttle service takes you 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) to the DC-3 wreckage in less than 15 minutes. Enjoy the harsh but beautiful landscape around the Airplane Wreck and the black sand beach close by before we pick you up again. Relax in the comfy shuttle as we transport you back to your vehicle. Hot Springs and Cool Arctic Roads Sep 24 – Apr 25

Enjoy a peaceful time at the Blue Lagoon, a unique natural pool of mineral rich geothermal water located in the middle of a lava field in the pure, beautiful Icelandic wilderness.
The Blue Lagoon is famous for its special properties and its beneficial effects on the skin. The Blue Lagoon attracts visitors from all over the world in search of health, relaxation, and an exotic experience.
In addition to bathing in the lagoon, you will have access to a sauna with a view of the lagoon, a steam-bath with white walls that resemble silica-mud and a cosy steam-bath carved into a lava cave. You can also stand beneath a small waterfall for an energising massage. Of course, bathing in the milky waters means you&#8217;ll have easy access to the famous white silica-mud, an essential part of the spa experience.
If you need to store your luggage during their time at the lagoon, a special luggage storage facility is available next to the main parking area. There is a small fee to store the luggage.
Please note entrance to the Blue Lagoon must be booked in advance. You can choose between two bathing experiences: Comfort and Premium.

Discover a unique experience of the healing powers of the geothermal springs. Soak in a natural pool, listen to the bubbling hot spring in the steam rooms, or (for the adventurous), take a dip in the refreshing lake.
Since 1929, locals have been enjoying the healing powers of the natural steam baths by Lake Laugarvatn. Hot, healing steam simmers directly from the ground through grids in the cabin floors of the three traditional steam rooms. The temperature of the steam varies between 40°C (104°F) and 50°C (122°F). Humidity is very high in the steam room cabins. Grids in the floor of the steam rooms allow you to hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring right underneath, creating a natural and unique experience.
Next to the steam rooms is Ylur, a Finnish-style sauna. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful lake view through the large window.  Three connected outdoor mineral baths vary in depth, size and temperature.  A hot tub built at a slightly higher level offers a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings.
Completing the ensemble is the lake itself and the beach. You can walk into the cool lake from a pier or walk on the warm black sand beach. Cold bathing has beneficial health effects.
The café at Laugarvatn Fontana offers a selection of healthy and locally produced delicacies and refreshments, including traditional steam-baked rye bread.

Fontana Geothermal Baths

Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland and located just 30 minutes from Reykjavík.
A journey into Raufarhólshellir is a unique experience. It&#8217;s a great opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption. You&#8217;ll walk in the path of lava that flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred about 5200 years ago. Every winter spectacular ice sculptures form inside the entrance of the cave, making the experience of visiting the lava tunnel even more breathtaking.
The total length of the tunnel is an impressive 1360 m (4500 ft), the main tunnel being 900 m (3000 ft) long. The tunnel is up to 30 m (98 ft) wide with headroom up to 10 m (32 ft) high, making it one of the most expansive lava tunnels in Iceland.
A footbridge ensures that you can explore the tunnel in an easy and enjoyable manner. Impressive lighting highlights the changing colours and clearly shows the powerful volcanic activity that formed the tunnel.
Your tour includes a guided caving tour in English and use of a helmet and headlamp. A return bus transfer to the cave can be added at the time of purchase. We do recommend you bring warm clothes and sturdy shoes. There is usually some water dripping from the ceiling, so wearing a water resistant or waterproof jacket/clothes is also a good idea.

Lava Tunnel Tour – Caving

Immerse yourself in the clearest water in the world and float between two continents in Iceland! A snorkelling adventure in the famous Silfra fissure is an unforgettable experience.
Snorkel in Silfra, where the astonishingly clear water reveals a mesmerising underwater world full of coluors you don’t see above the surface. Silfra is a fissure created by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates cutting through Iceland. A natural lava filtering process of the glacial water makes Silfra one of the clearest bodies of water on earth.
After you arrive at Silfra, your guide will give you your dry suit and snorkelling equipment. Your snorkel guide will explain how to use this equipment and how to ensure that you will be warm and comfortable during your 30 to 40-minute snorkelling tour.
During your snorkel you will explore the four main parts of Silfra. You will float through Big Crack, Silfra’s narrowest section where the continental plates are so close you can almost touch them. The fissure then widens into Silfra Hall. Here the full spectrum of Silfra’s colours and clarity become all the more apparent. At this point if you look at just the right angle you can see all the way to Lake Þingvallavatn in the distance. Near to the opening to Þingvellir lake you will enter the deeper waters of Silfra Cathedral, where you’ll feel like you are flying over the boulders and glacial silt. Your snorkel is finished in the endless visibility of Silfra Lagoon.
Make sure to drink some of the Silfra water while you are snorkeling! Who knows when you will be able to drink water so pure again?

Snorkelling Silfra Day Tour (with Reykjavík transfers)

Enjoy a natural and historical treasure in the Golden Circle area: the peaceful and mystical Secret Lagoon hot spring pool.
The Secret Lagoon is natural, simple, and unique for you so that you can get the true Icelandic experience. The Secret Lagoon, known locally as &#8220;Gamla Laugin&#8221;, is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. Local residents built it in 1891 at Hverahólmi, a geothermal area near Flúðir village.
What makes the lagoon special is the rich natural resources of warm water coming from the hot springs. Vaðmálahver, Básahver, and Litli Geysir (an active geyser which spouts every few minutes for the guests), provide 100% of the water supply in the lagoon.  The pool water flows continuously, and it takes only 24 hours to complete replacement. Warm, clean, and rich in sulphur, the water stays at 38-40°C (100 – 104°F) year-round.
A walking path around the pool lets you safely watch the boiling, gushing springs of water from the hot springs.
The Secret Lagoon has modern changing rooms. A bistro sells snacks, cold sandwiches and drinks. You can also purchase drinks to enjoy in the lagoon itself.

Secret Lagoon

A Zipline ride is a great adventure for all those who love the thrill of doing something challenging but at the same time very safe.
The tour includes a hike through breathtaking river canyon and four Zipline rides. The scenery below you is breathtaking, and you will have a bird’s-eye view of it as you whiz down the Zipline.
Our Zipline course is situated near Vík, a South Iceland village surrounded by beautiful hills and valleys. After we meet you at our base, we will first drive for 5 minutes, then hike for another 5 minutes at a moderate pace to reach the take-off platform for the first Zip, Little Rush. We will give you detailed safety instructions and make sure you are comfortable with what to do during the Zipline. The next thing you know, you are zipping above the canyon, enjoying an exciting and amazing view of the area.
Our second Zipline, The Gentle Giant, is just around the corner. This is our longest ride; our guests often think this is the prettiest one. Then we will take a short hike (about 10 minutes) through the amazing rock formation of Grafargil (Grave Canyon) to the next Zipline, the Leap of Faith. We won’t tell you more for now because we don’t want to spoil your surprise. Finally, we’ll take the fourth Zipline, the Big Rush. It will take you over a stunning waterfall. To finish off the experience, we will take a short and scenic hike back to our base.

Zipline Adventure in Vík

Glide along the smooth surface of Sólheimajökull’s Glacier Lagoon during this easy kayaking tour. Bask in the beautiful nature around you as your expert guide leads you around this famous outlet glacier.
Leave the crowds behind and immerse in the beauty of a majestic outlet glacier while on a kayak. Before setting off to glide along the smooth waters of Sólheimajökull glacier lagoon, you will meet your professional kayaking guide at the Sólheimajökull Base Camp. There, you will be receive  a short safety briefing and get a dry suit and paddle.
The sit-on-top kayaks tare easy to steer, and you need no previous kayaking experience. As you push away from the shore, you will enter the world of an iceberg filled lagoon. The spellbinding glacial landscape and calm waters will make you feel like you are in another world. Your guide will lead you around the glacier. You&#8217;ll paddle between icebergs to admire these natural wonders from a perspective only visible from the water.
After a period of gliding along the still surface of the lagoon, you’ll head back to shore with a lifetime of memories.

Kayaking by Sólheimajökull Glacier

&#8220;Glacier Wonders&#8221; is a superb but easy glacier hiking tour from Skaftafell into the magnificent ice-world of Falljökull glacier, a tongue of the mighty Vatnajökull glacier. You will learn how a living glacier moves and why this magical ice-kingdom is always changing.
Meet your certified and experienced glacier guide at Vatnajökull National Park. Then the excitement really begins!
Start with a drive towards Falljökull glacier through stunningly spectacular scenery. Watch the soft vegetation around Skaftafell give way to the impressive mountain landscapes. The drive takes around 15 minutes; you’ll then hike for about 30 minutes up to Falljökull.  You&#8217;ll see stunning mountain glacier views with every step. Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland’s highest peak will tower high above you.
At Falljökull, you&#8217;ll strap on ice crampons for the magic moment – setting foot on the glacier! Depending on the conditions, you’ll spend about 1,5 hours on the glacier. Your guide will explain this unbelievably vibrant and living world to you. You will see incredible crevasses wending their way, twisting and turning through the glacier. These labyrinths are always forming, moving and changing in tune with the dance of nature. See the great moulins, which descend deep into the glacier, and stunning ice falls as ancient ice drops hundreds of metres from the mountain top. A glacier is never static, its gradual movement makes a glacier one of the most magnificent natural forces in the world.

Glacier Wonders – Glacier Hike in Skaftafell

Experience the wonderful volcanic southern coastline of Iceland with its thundering waterfalls, endless black sand beaches and glacier coated volcanoes, accompanied by an audio guide available in 10 different languages! 
Your tour starts with a drive through lava fields by the actively volcanic Hengill mountain and then down to the rich coastal farmland. On clear days you can see Hekla Volcano. In the distance, the glacier capped Eyjafjallajökull Volcano will rise majestically above the coastal mountains at its base. Just off the coastline are the volcanic Westman Islands, an archipelago of around 15 small islands. 
Your first stop is at Reynisfjara black sand beach, which is every photographer’s dream. The powerful Atlantic waves crashing on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks, and the huge basalt-column cave are all sights to take your breath away. 
After being amazed by the power of the sea you will head on to Vík. The village of Vík is the southernmost village in Iceland. Despite its small size (291 inhabitants), Vík is the largest settlement for 70 km (44 miles)! 
On your way back to Reykjavík, you’ll stop by the powerful Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps takes you to one of Iceland’s most scenic views that includes glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. The last stop of your day is a visit to the ribbon-like Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, famous for the hidden pathway behind and around it.

Take a walk in one of Iceland’s most unique gardens: a beautiful collection of stones and minerals that show how Iceland was created. 
Geologically speaking, the East Fjords are one of the oldest areas in Iceland and have the most diverse rock variety. A local East Icelander, Petra Sveinsdóttir, created this magnificent exhibit of rocks and minerals over a lifetime. She designed a display in her house and garden. More than 90% of the minerals and semi-precious stones come from the surrounding Stöðvarfjörður area.
Petra began building her mineral collection when she and her husband bought their house in 1946. Petra had a special talent when it came to locating a beautiful stone. Local people tell stories about how Petra had the ability to find a magnificent mineral in a place where they just had been walking minutes before. Petra compared mineral collecting to hunting or fishing.
The museum is not only an interesting geological exhibit, it also will give you an insight into the local life of East Iceland through one of the area’s most unique residents.
